REGIONS

Shizoka prefecture's charms are introduced here area by area: Izu, Fuji, the Central Area, and Western Area.

Eastern Area (Izu)

This area is known throughout Japan for its onsen hot springs. Views of blue ocean and lush, undulating nature spread out, and each area: Higashi Izu, Naka Izu, Nishi Izu, can be enjoyed for its own distinct look. The food features the bounty of sea and mountain: fresh marine produce, fruit, Amagi wasabi grown with crystal clear water, and more.

Eastern Area (Fuji)

This area spreads out at the base of the World Heritage Site of Mt. Fuji. Enjoy highland leisure pursuits with a view of Mt. Fuji, and sightseeing taking in the beauty of the area's waterfalls and flowing streams. Dining is highly recommended here for the local produce: pasture-grown dairy products, Fujinomiya yakisoba noodles, and dipping "Neapolitan" spaghetti.

Central Area

This area in the middle of Shizuoka prefecture lives and breathes history and culture. Visit its famous historical spots, enjoy the picturesque scenery of Mt. Fuji, and the thermal mountain springs. Here is also home to Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport. There is food here of a flavor not to be found anywhere else in Japan: wasabi, green tea, strawberries, sakura shrimp, and Shizoka's own kuro-hanpen fishcake. Here in the Central Area you can sample gourmet delights from all over the prefecture.

Western Area

This area, bordering on Enshunada, is blessed with rich natural resources. Enjoy the variety: marine sports and onsen hot spring resorts on and around Lake Hamanako, boisterous local festivals, and more. Hamamatsu City is renowned nationwide for the eel produced there, and the streets of the town are lined with famous eel restaurants. Also popular are fruit harvested from around Lake Hamanako, and Hamamatsu gyoza dumplings, which make ideal gifts to bring home.
